The British Council, in partnership with the Scottish Graduate School for Arts & Humanities (SGSAH), invites applications for the Earth Scholarships 2024.
This is a project to enable international research collaborations between PhD students and early career researchers and Scottish institutions.
Overview:
The Earth Scholarships 2024 is a program at the nexus of environmental arts and humanities with STEAM disciplines in response to the climate emergency.
The scholarship will create a singular opportunity for scholars to engage in ground-breaking research, exchange ideas, and draw on the expertise and resources of Scottish higher education institutions.
Scholarship Details
The scholarship is designed to deliver the following:
- Research Opportunity Setting and International Mobility
- Development and support of innovative solutions towards handling the global climate crisis.
- Help to promote sustainable research and cultural exchanges between and beyond the arts, humanities, and cultural sectors.
The scheme will fund PhD and Early Career Researchers based outside of the UK to support in-person and hybrid exchanges in Scotland for up to 3 months.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the British Council Scotland SGSAH Earth Scholarship 2024, one must have:
- Be PhD students or early career researchers registered or graduated from non-UK universities, working with environmental arts and humanities.
- Spend time in Scotland working with an academic mentor, contributing to and benefiting from the networks and resources of a host higher education institute.
- Have outstanding academic and research potential.
- Early career researchers must be within 1 year of notification of their PhD award.
Application Deadline
The closing date for applications is 1 November 2023.
Application Procedures
Interested applicants should submit an online application through the SGSAH’s online system, accompanied by various documents, including:
- Proposal: Full research proposal and details on how you will benefit from the Cluster membership, cohort-building, and training and development activities.
- Budget: Budget and justification of resources.
- Curriculum Vitae: Curriculum vitae up to a maximum of 4 pages.
Support Letters:
- Letter of support from your PhD supervisor up to a maximum of 2 pages.
- A letter of support from the proposed Host Institution; up to 2 pages from the Head of Department or equivalent.
