USSP does exist to give very important opportunities to some students from specific countries in the South Pacific region to pursue master’s and bachelor’s degree studies at the University of Hawai’i.
This is a competitive and merit-based scholarship program sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, targeting fields that dovetail with the development needs of the Pacific island countries to drive their growth and progress.
US South Pacific Scholarship Program 2023/2024 [Fully Funded]
In addition to academic study, the USSP incorporates a mentorship component through which students have access to mentors who will assist and counsel them throughout their studies. Furthermore, a follow-up summer internship opportunity may be available which allows students to experience practical work in their areas of study.
Cultural immersion and community involvement are encouraged through such activities as host family programs and volunteer service projects.
Applicants from the following countries can apply for this USSP, provided that they satisfy certain specified selection criteria.

US South Pacific Scholarship 2023 | Eligibility Criteria
The U.S. South Pacific Scholarship Program will award both Bachelor’s and Master’s scholarships to students from eligible countries in the South Pacific region.
Eligible Courses: Priority areas include agriculture, business, communication/journalism, education, environmental studies, gender studies, NGO management, political science, public administration, public health, STEM fields, (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), and other related fields.
Eligible Countries: Only citizens of the following countries are eligible for the program:
- Cook Islands
- Fiji
- Kiribati
- Nauru
- Niue
- Papua New Guinea
- Samoa
- Solomon Islands
- Tonga
- Tuvalu
- Vanuatu

Application Procedures
Application for the USSP has to be made online. The following is a step-by-step guide in applying for the said scholarship:
- Visit the Official Website: Browse the official USSP program website to be directed to the online application.
- Account Creation: In case you are a new applicant, you would want to create an account on the application portal. Enter your name, email address, and password to register.
- Application Form: Log in to the account and fill in the form available online for applications. See that you fill in all fields that are asterisked, which are mandatory, correctly and completely.
- Upload Application Documents: Prepare all documents that will be attached to your application, as required by the USSP program. They usually include:
- passport-sized photo (max. file size)
- Resume/curriculum vitae outlining your academic background, work experience, and achievements (max. pages)
- Transcripts of academic records, wherein for Bachelor’s applicants they need to attach secondary school transcripts and undergraduate transcripts for Master’s applicants.
- Additional documents may be required in the form of letters of recommendation or essays, as may be required, with the maximum file size specified.
5. Apply: Once you are satisfied that the application is complete in all respects, submit it online by the deadline. Late and incomplete applications are not considered.
