Commonwealth Masters Scholarships 2024/2025 for Low-Income Countries

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is happy to announce the availability of the Commonwealth Masters Scholarships for the 2024-25 academic year.

This fully funded scholarship opportunity is open to eligible individuals from Commonwealth countries who wish to pursue postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom.

With the scholarship, citizens of the low- and middle-income countries that are members of the Commonwealth are able to undertake a full-time Master’s level taught program in the UK on full sponsorship. Students are normally picked through nominating bodies, hence advised to follow instructions to apply.

Commonwealth Masters Scholarships 2024/2025 | DETAILS

The Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships will enable talented and motivated individuals to acquire the skills and knowledge required for sustainable development.

These scholarships will be provided to people who would otherwise not be in a position to acquire quite a sufficient amount of money needed to study in the UK. These are available under six thematic areas, which pinpoint various aspects of development. Of importance is the development theme:

This thematic area is designed to bring about research and study in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, and innovation and technology transfer in a way that solutions toward development challenges would be achieved.

Building Strong Health Systems and Capacity:
Scholarships in tune with this thematic area are designed to build capacity in health care systems, building health professional capacity, and being responsive towards public health challenges in terms of prevention, disease, and health care delivery.

Promoting Global Prosperity:
This theme speaks to the necessity for efforts at promoting economic development, entrepreneurship, trade, and investment as a pathway to ensure prosperity and sustainable economic growth for Commonwealth countries.

Scholarships under this thematic area support research and study toward the attainment of peacebuilding, conflict resolution, governance, human rights, and international relations to forge stability and security across the globe.

Strengthening Resilience and Response to Crises

This team is focused on developing resilience in natural disasters, humanitarian crises, and emergencies through research, policy formulation, and, most importantly, capacity-building activities.

Access, Inclusion, and Opportunity

Scholarships under this theme will embrace the principles guiding access to educational opportunities, social inclusion, and according to every individual equal opportunities without discrimination as to their background, disadvantage, disability, or any other under-represented group.

Eligibility Criteria

Please note that there are some eligibility conditions set for candidates to apply for the Commonwealth Masters Scholarships 2024/25 for Low Income Country Students to Study in UK. To apply for this scholarship, you must:

Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person
Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country
Can start studying in a UK academic year, commencing in September/October 2024.

By September 2024, you should have completed a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) honours standard, or a second class degree (a 2:2) and a relevant postgraduate qualification – usually a Master’s degree. The CSC would not normally fund a second UK Master’s degree. If you are applying for a second UK Master’s degree, you
will need to give justification for your study.

Applicants will need to provide evidence English Language ability.

Each fellowship offers the following:

For each fellowship, an allowance will be approved for airfare from your home country to the UK and return ticket provided at the end of your award.
There will be fully funded approved tuition fees.
Stipend at the rate of £1,347 per month or £1,652 per month for those at universities in the London metropolitan area.
Warm clothing allowance, where applicable Thesis grant towards the cost of preparing a thesis or dissertation, where applicable
