The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at USIU-Africa offers full-cost scholarships to young Africans who are first-time undergraduate degree-seeking applicants.
These scholarships are designed to equip students with internationally recognized and locally applicable qualifications, enabling them to lead positive changes in their communities and contribute to meaningful transformation across the continent.
The program targets African youth who fall into the following categories:
- Young Women: Encouraging gender diversity and empowering young women to pursue higher education and leadership roles.
- Refugees/Displaced Youth: Providing opportunities for young people who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution, or other crises.
- Persons with Disability: Ensuring inclusivity and accessibility in education by supporting students with disabilities to pursue their academic aspirations.
- Young Men: While the program targets specific groups, it also welcomes applications from young men who demonstrate academic talent, commitment to community service, and leadership potential.
Qualities and Eligibilities
Academic Talent: Demonstrated academic excellence and potential for success in undergraduate studies.
Commitment to Community Service: A strong desire to give back to their communities and contribute positively to society.
Leadership Potential: The ability and willingness to lead change and make a difference in their communities and beyond.
Priority is given to registered refugees/displaced youth and persons with disabilities, recognizing the unique challenges they may face in accessing higher education opportunities.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at USIU-Africa, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Age Limit: Applicants must be 29 years old or younger at the time of application.
Academic Qualifications:

- Meet the minimum university entry grade of a C+ and above, or its equivalent as set by the Kenya Commission for University Education.
- For applicants interested in courses in the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, a mean grade of B- or its equivalent is required, with at least a C+ or B- in the cluster subjects of English, Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry. International applicants must meet the equivalent standards.
Approved Undergraduate Degree Programs: Applicants must be interested in pursuing any of the 13 approved undergraduate degree programs for the Scholars Program at USIU-Africa. These programs are categorized by the respective schools:

- School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (SPHS)
- School of Communication, Cinematic, and Creative Arts (SCCCA)
- Chandaria School of Business (CSB)
- School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS)
Leadership and Community Engagement: Applicants must have a proven record of leadership involvement and engagement in community service.
Socio-economic Disadvantage: Applicants must demonstrate socio-economic disadvantage, indicating financial need or other barriers that may hinder access to higher education.

Application Procedures
- Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to apply for the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at USIU-Africa:
1. Access the Application Form:
Download the application form from the USIU-Africa website or obtain a physical copy at no cost from the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program Office at the School of Graduate Studies, Research and Extension, 2nd floor.
2. Review Instructions and Requirements:
Before filling out the application form, carefully read through all the instructions and ensure you have the required information and supporting documents.
3. Complete the Application:
Fill in the application form accurately and completely, providing all necessary details as per the instructions.
4. Gather Supporting Documents:
Collect all supporting documents required for the application, which may include academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, personal statements, and any other specified documents.
5. Scan Documents:
Scan all the required documents, including the completed scholarship application form, in PDF format. Ensure the scanned copies are clear and legible.

- Submit the complete application package by email to mcfsp-applications@usiu.ac.ke. In the subject line of the email, clearly state your name and nationality.
Alternatively, you can drop off your application at the Scholars Program Office, located in the School of Graduate Studies, Research and Extension building at USIU-Africa.
If you prefer to mail your application, address it to the specified postal address.
