The Study in Canada Scholarships offer students from post-secondary institutions located in newly eligible countries/territories short-term exchange opportunities for study or research at Canadian post-secondary institutions.

Eligibility Criteria | Government of Canada Scholarships2024-25

To be eligible for the Government of Canada Scholarships 2024-25, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Citizenship:
    • Applicants must be citizens of one of the following eligible countries/territories:
      • Asia: Bangladesh, Nepal, Taiwan
      • Europe: Turkey, Ukraine
      • Middle East and North Africa: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia
      • Sub-Saharan Africa: Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda
  2. Enrollment Status:
    • Applicants must be enrolled as full-time students at a post-secondary institution in an eligible country/territory.
    • They must be paying tuition fees to that institution at the time of application and for the full duration of the exchange program.

The Canadian post-secondary institution must:

  1. Designated Learning Institution (DLI):
    • The Canadian institution they intend to study or conduct research at must be a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) recognized by the Canadian government.
  2. Student Exchange Agreement:
    • There must be a valid student exchange agreement between the Canadian institution and the candidate’s home institution.
    • This agreement should waive tuition fees for scholarship recipients.
    • If there is no formal agreement in place for college and undergraduate research applications, a letter issued by the Canadian institution’s international office or equivalent will be accepted.
  3. Mandatory Fees:
    • In exceptional cases where certain fees cannot be waived, the Canadian institution must inform both the candidate and their home institution about these mandatory fees prior to the scholarship application process.

Scholarship Value and Benefits

The Government of Canada Scholarship for the 2024-25 period is valued at either CAD 10,200 or CAD 12,700, depending on the duration of the study. Recipients are expected to use these funds for the following purposes:

  1. Visa or Study/Work Permit Fees: Covering the costs associated with obtaining the necessary visa or study/work permit required for the duration of the scholarship.
  2. Airfare: The scholarship will cover the airfare for the recipient only, and it should be via the most direct and economical route to Canada.

  6. Books and Supplies: Funds should be used to purchase books and supplies required for the recipient’s study or research. However, this excludes the purchase of computers and other equipment.

  2. Submission Process: Eligible Canadian institutions will submit applications on behalf of qualified candidates. These institutions will guide applicants through the application process and assist them in preparing necessary documentation.
  3. Promotion of Scholarship Opportunity: Canadian institutions will promote the scholarship opportunity to their faculty and staff members, as well as to partner institutions in eligible countries/territories.
  4. Ranking Applications: Institutions will rank applications based on their strategic priorities, ensuring alignment with their academic and institutional goals.
  5. Designation of Responsible Person: Each institution will identify a single individual responsible for the submission of applications and coordination with the scholarship program.

Post-secondary institutions from eligible countries/territories should:

  • Communication with Partner Institutions:

Eligible candidates should communicate with partner institutions in Canada to confirm existing institutional collaborations and explore opportunities for student exchange agreements.

  • Promotion of Scholarship Opportunity:

Partner institutions should actively promote the scholarship opportunity through their international offices and other relevant channels to attract potential candidates.

  • Identification of Eligible Candidates:

Partner institutions will identify candidates who meet the eligibility and admission requirements specified by the Canadian partner institution.

  • Submission of Applications:

Partner institutions will provide necessary supporting documents for their candidates to the Canadian partner institution.

The Canadian partner institution will be responsible for submitting the scholarship applications on behalf of the candidates.

Partner institutions should advise selected candidates to undergo additional linguistic training and develop intercultural skills before their departure to Canada.
