Government of Canada Scholarships to Study in Canada 2024-25 [Fully Funded]

The Study in Canada Scholarships offer opportunities for students from newly eligible countries or territories at the post-secondary level to participate in short-term exchange programs in Canada for study or research.

Such opportunities are available at the college, undergraduate, and graduate levels.

Enrollment Status:

  • Applicants must be enrolled full-time at any post-secondary institution in an eligible country/ territory.
  • They are required to pay tuition fees to the institution at the time of application and during the period of the exchange program.

The Canadian post-secondary institution should:

  • They should be intending to study or pursue their research at a Canadian institution that is considered as a Designated Learning Institution DLI by the Canadian government.

Student Exchange Agreement:

  • A valid student exchange agreement between the Canadian institution and the candidate’s home institution;
  • This agreement must specify that tuition fees are waived for scholarship holders;
  • For college and undergraduate research applications, if there is no formal agreement, a letter issued by the Canadian institution’s international office or equivalent, is acceptable.

Mandatory Fees:

In extraordinary circumstances, when some fees cannot be waived, it is the responsibility of the Canadian institution to inform the candidate, as well as their home institution, of this requirement, and mandatory fees, before the scholarship application period.

Scholarship Value and Benefits

The Government of Canada Scholarship, pertinent to the 2024-25 period, is worth CAD 10,200 or CAD 12,700, depending on the duration of study. Recipients are expected to use these funds towards the following:

  • Visa or Study/Work Permit Fees: Coverage of visa fees or the study/work permit that will be required for the period of the scholarship.
  • Airfare: The scholarship is to cover only the recipient’s airfare and that via the most direct and most economical route to Canada.
  • Health Insurance: Proper allocation for the buying of health insurance to ensure the well-being of the recipient during his/her sojourn into Canada.
  • Living Expenses: This shall include accommodation, utilities, and food expenses incurred for the recipient’s stay in Canada.
  • Ground Transportation: The grant will also provide for ground transportation, and the award holder will be provided with a public transportation pass to help him move around in Canada.
  • Books and Supplies: The funds are meant for buying books and supplies that are deemed necessary for the recipient’s course of study or research. This, however, excludes the purchase of computers and other equipment.

Application Procedures

Contact Eligible Canadian Institutions: Candidates must send their applications directly to eligible Canadian institutions.

Application Process: Only eligible Canadian institutions can submit applications on behalf of the qualified candidate. Canadian institutions will support applicants in the application process, including provision of guidance on the application and assistance with production of supporting documents.

Promotion of Scholarship Opportunity: Eligible Canadian institutions will promote the scholarship opportunity to their faculty and staff as well as to partner institutions in eligible countries/territories.

Ranking Applications: The institution shall rank the applications against its strategic priorities and focus on the goals of the academic and institutional strategies.

Designation of Responsible Person: Each institution shall identify a single individual who shall be responsible for submitting applications and coordinating with the Scholarship Program.

Post-secondary institutions from eligible countries/territories must:

  1. Communication with Partner Institutions:

Eligible candidates should directly contact partner institutions in Canada to confirm the presence of institutional collaboration and explore opportunities for student exchange agreements.

2. Promotion of Scholarship Opportunity:

Partner institutions will advertise this scholarship opportunity, through their international offices and all other appropriate offices, to attract potential candidates.

3. Identification of Eligible Candidates:

The partner institutions shall select candidates who meet the eligibility and admission requirements specified by the Canadian partner institution.

Application for Scholarship:

The necessary supporting documents for each candidate shall be provided by the partner institutions to the Canadian partner institution.

The scholarship applications shall be submitted by the Canadian partner institution on behalf of the candidates.

Candidate Preparation:

Partner institutions should recommend selected candidates for further linguistic training and intercultural skills building before their arrival in Canada.

In view of this, it will help the candidates to adjust better in Canada to both academic and cultural environments.
