Scholarships in Ireland Without IELTS

Although scholarships for international students to study in Ireland that do not require IELTS may vary with respect to availability and criteria, the following are a few examples that may be open to international students without requiring a compulsory IELTS score:

  • Government of Ireland International Education Scholarships: Granted to the best international students from non-EU/EEA countries to pursue any master’s or Ph.D. course in Ireland. There is a case wherein some scholarships remove the requirement to appear for IELTS if it can be proved that prior education was based on an English-medium curriculum.
  • Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship: This scholarship, provided by the Irish Research Council, allows talented students to pursue a research master’s or Ph.D. program in any discipline at participating Irish higher education institutions. There is an element of language proficiency in English; however, this does not have to be proved necessarily by means of an IELTS score.
  • Irish Universities Association Scholarships: Some Irish universities also offer scholarships to international students based on merit, potential, and leadership. While the proficiency in English is a must, test scores in IELTS can be exempt if the applicant proves to be proficient by other means, such as studying in English or submitting proof of proficiency from their institution.
  • Institution-Specific Scholarships: There will be some scholarships which are particularly designed by institutions for international students hailing from certain regions or having some kind of background. All these scholarships will have different eligibility criteria, and some might include language proficiency requirements. Some institutions may waive the need for IELTS if the applicant can prove proficiency through other means.
  • Private Scholarships: There are a few private organizations, foundations, and corporations that grant scholarships to international students who come to study in Ireland. Although the eligibility may vary for each, some of them do not require an IELTS score if a person shows competence in some other way.
