Nigeria Artificial Intelligence Research Scheme (N5,000,000 Supports)

The Nigeria Artificial Intelligence Research Scheme 2023 is calling for applications to provide funding for remarkable work of AI researchers and start-ups in Nigeria. Each selected applicant will stand a chance of receiving up to N5,000,000.

Eligibility Criteria | Nigeria Artificial Intelligence Research Scheme 2023

The following are the eligibility criteria for the award of the Nigeria Artificial Intelligence Research Scheme 2023. To be eligible, applications must:

1. Consortium Composition:

The applicants shall be formed to include a consortium of a start-up or technology company and an academic researcher from a Nigerian institution or another foreign researcher. This makes collaborative partnership among academia, industry, and research institutions to encourage interdisciplinarity in collaboration and knowledge exchange.

2. AI Priority Areas:

The research proposal must be relevant to areas specified by the AI agenda of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy. Applicants should give a clear case for how their project addresses some of the challenges or opportunities within these priority areas.

Selection Criteria

The following shall be eligible to apply for the Nigeria Artificial Intelligence Research Scheme 2023:

• Consortium Composition: Applicants must constitute a consortium composed of a start-up or technology firm with a Nigerian academic researcher or a foreign researcher. It encourages collaborative linkages between academia, industry, and research institutions, with a view toward engendering interdisciplinarity and knowledge exchange.
• Priority Areas of AI: The research proposal has to address the priority areas provided by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy’s AI agenda.In such cases, applicants shall clearly demonstrate how the project addresses some of the identified challenges or other issues within any of the above priority areas.
• Detailed Project Proposal: It is at this level that a registrant would be required to forward a detailed proposal of the research to be undertaken, stating the objectives of the research, methodology, and outcomes expected from the research and what impact it would have on the Nigerian economy.

  In any case, such a proposal will have to come up with at least one plan where it explains how the project will attack certain challenges or exploit opportunities available within the domain of AI.
• Track Record of Excellence: An applicant at this level must demonstrate a clear record of research or entrepreneurial excellence towards the execution of any proposed project.

  Application Procedure

  Proposals must be submitted via the Programme’s online submission facility, which includes an online application form that must be completed and the uploading of all documentation, including a research proposal and any other relevant material.
